Handling Jackets

Postby Leanne O'Sullivan » Thu 04 Mar 2010 1:08 pm

I'm looking for a new handling jacket, something with about half & half black/white. I've looked at the Goldenlake Jakets site but it doesn't have what I'm looking for.

Can anyone recommend a website other than Goldenlake that sells handling jackets?

Thanks

Hi Leanne,

Why 1/2 black and 1/2 white? A zebra is about 50:50 for camouflage. Are you trying to hide from your dog :?: I can understand all black or all white or maybe even a little contrast at the end of the sleeves for example but not 50:50. Perhaps the reason why golden lake don't make them 50:50 is they are harder for the dog to see. It might be worth paying particular attention at the next trial to how the various handlers jackets look at a distance from a dogs perspective before you order anything. I think all white with black gloves stands out the most personally. I tried the gloves for a while but kept losing them!!!!! Just my thoughts.

Hi Gareth

At the last trial I was out on the thrower and had a great view of the handlers. What I noticed was that the handlers in white jackets faded almost completely into the background. One person came up wearing a jacket that was around 50/50 black/white and they stood out very clearly. There were many very experienced handlers amongst the group competing that day and all were wearing predominantly white jackets so no-one seemed to take into consideration the background they were standing in front of.

You may well be right that an all black jacket would have been better suited in that situation but do many people carry both a white and black jacket with them to trials? I thought one jacket with both colours would be easier - the one handler with that type of jacket certainly did stand out from where I was sitting.

I know you can get reversible jackets, white one side and black the other, in fact I have one myself, but it is a very thick winter jacket that is unusable in summer.

Leanne,

I have one of the reversable jackets but it is to hot in summer...... Why not just have a long sleeve T shirt (black) for summer and get the mesh white jacket from Golden lake for the summer. That covers both options. I have worn the mesh jacket for years its great in summer and can also be worn over wet weather gear as the mesh doesn't abosorb water.

gareth

PS I guess you are talking about Trevors 1st aa run. I must say I was hoping not to handle on a double mark!!!!! Bening the start of the season I was so disorganised I didn'e even bring a jacket or bird bag. Thanks to Garrick I had a plan B. I borowed one, its great and cheap too.

Yes, I was talking about Trevor's 1st run on Sunday. Everyone seemed to focus on the gully they were standing in and not even notice the hill covered in dead grass right behind them.

The black t-shirt sounds like a good idea. I have one of the white mesh jackets already so the t-shirt would be a cheap alternative.

Leanne we were discussing this at the run and no one had a black jacket - I was wearing navy and nearly used that but didn't at the last minute. At least my white has a black sripe down the arms which is better than nothing. Prue
